Corporate Champions

Corporate Champions are community businesses who encourage their employees to collect pledges and walk or run in the Great Human Race for one or more nonprofit agencies. Don't let the word "corporate" fool you. Corporate Champions can be a Mom & Pop grocery store, a dry cleaner or coffee house.

Any business, big or small, that is looking to boost employee morale, generate good PR and get involved in the community on a very direct level is a strong Corporate Champion candidate. Please contact Tammy Dorfman at tammy@thevolunteercenter.org if you would like to become a Great Human Race Corporate Champion.

Join the 13th annual Great Human Race and raise funds along with other nonprofit organizations in the Triangle community! All area nonprofit and public agencies are eligible to register.

How it Works

Each year, the Volunteer Center of Durham hosts the Great Human Race for the benefit of the nonprofit community. Each registered organization encourages its friends and supporters to raise funds in the form of individual donations. Everyone who raises money for the organization is eligible to win one of several door prizes. The top adult and youth fundraisers compete to win our top prizes -- past winners have received a night's stay at the Washington Duke Inn and Golf Course and a night's stay at the O'Henry Hotel in Greensboro, NC. Agencies turn over their race donations and fundraiser information to the Volunteer Center of Durham, who manage the race. A small percentage of funds raised is reserved to cover the cost of organizing the race.

On race day, each organization is encouraged to gather as many of their friends and supporters as they can to walk in the nonprofit portion of the race. Each agency will get a sign to carry that lets spectators and the media know who they are, and the most energetic groups frequently find themselves in the newspaper! The Volunteer Center of Durham will take your group's picture and send you a copy for use in your publications. A celebration with refreshments and entertainment follows the 5K race.

Send your donors to our online donation center and tell them to indicate that their donation is for you!

Fundraising Tools

The key to a successful race is fundraising. This year you can create your own online fundraising page!Just click here, www.active.com/donate/greathumanrace, to start your own
fundraising page.  You can look at other fundraising pages by using the drop down boxes (view team pages and/or view fundraising pages (this is for individuals).

In order to create your own page choose Become a Fundraiser  (in dark blue box at top of page).

Next choose Create a Fundraising Team (in the light blue box)

You will then be asked to create a user name and pass word.  From there it will lead you through the set up process to get your TEAM page started.

Once your TEAM page is created you can go back and create your own personal fundraising page by choosing Click Here to join this team!

If you go to the volunteer center's page you can see how this will look, http://www.active.com/donate/greathumanrace/volunteercenterofdurham.
On the right side you see a drop down box View Member Fundraisers and below click here to join this team.  Your program page will look similarly.

From your TEAM page or your personal page you can choose one of 2  options, Invite your Friends to Donate or Invite others to contribute (this depends on what set up you use when you're creating your page).
