What's this all about? The Great Human Race is a nationwide community fundraising event for nonprofit organizations. The Triangle area race features a 5k competitive run and a 5k community walk through downtown Durham. The event provides an opportunity for any nonprofit agency, school or faith based group to raise money for their programs and enables businesses and individuals to support the nonprofit of their choice. Participating nonprofit organizations receive 85% of monies collected and the Volunteer Center of Durham receives the remaining percentage to coordinate and stage the event. When does this fabulous event take place? - Saturday, March 27, 2010 (Rain or shine)

- Run starts: 8:30am
- Walk starts: Immediately following runners

- Run/Walk course: newly renovated Downtown Durham Streetscape
Who benefits? Funds can be raised to benefit your choice of nonprofit organization, school, or faith based group in the Triangle area. The run and walk is open to all. How Greater Durham nonprofits get involved! Each participating nonprofit organization must register online by contacting Tammy Dorfman at tammy@thevolunteercenter.org. GHR fundraising supplies such as posters, post cards and collection envelopes are available for pickup at the Volunteer Center of Durham or at several agency coordinator trainings offered. We will also provide you with training and support to host your fundraising online. Online fundraising is fun and easy!!!! Why does the Volunteer Center put this event on? The Great Human Race is a proven fundraiser that has been successful in the Triangle area for thirteen years and continues to grow. The mission of the Volunteer Center of Durham is to connect people with meaningful opportunities to serve. There are so many wonderful organizations in Greater Durham and we want to make sure they continue to thrive! The Volunteer Center of Durham provides marketing, publicity, materials and experienced assistance. Nonprofits and businesses provide the people power.
